A few hours of practicing makes a bigger impact on your guitar’s sound than changing the pickups or buying a new guitar…

Here comes the lesson that I’ve just realised in the last few days after a serious amount of practicing every day (about 3 hours a day) in the last few months: my fantastic guitar and amp never gonna bend the notes correctly! It’s never gonna make my vibrato sounding soulful!

So this is my advice to all my guitarist friends! Instead of spending time on tweaking your amp, your guitar, changing pickups or buying a new guitar, work on your technique! Work on it a lot! Hours and hours! First of all you should work on your vibrato and picking technique…with a few days of hard work on these your guitar will sound better! I guarantee that! Serious amount of work on these will have bigger impact than changing the pickups or changing the guitar or amp…

I’ve been learning Santana songs for a few months now for a new project and beside the songs, his technique and sound I’ve learnt so much about the impact of practing on my playing and the guitar sound…firstly I bought a great PRS and an amazing Mesa Boogie amp for this project…than I started tweaking the amp and the guitar…and hours and hours…days and days were spent with chasing the sound…but for getting seriously closer to his legendary sound I had to work hard on my VIBRATO, BENDING and PICKING technique…this work got me closer to the sound than anything else…
